Fred S. Vernacchia, M.D. attended medical school and completed his residency at University of California, San Francisco. He began practicing radiology in San Luis Obispo in 1986.

Dr. Vernacchia founded San Luis Diagnostic Center in 1994 because he is committed to providing state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and techniques. In fact, San Luis Diagnostic Center was the first facility in the county to offer Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, Digital Mammography, 3D Bone Mineral Analysis, MR Angiography, CT Angiography, Multi-detector CT, 4D ultrasound for pre-natal diagnosis, Virtual colonoscopy and to have a permanent PET/CT scanner for cancer detection.

Dr. Vernacchia has authored numerous medical articles, lectured to other radiologists internationally and has served as a director on many non-profit boards.

Fred lives in San Luis Obispo with his wife and three daughters. In his free time, he likes to travel and referee youth soccer.
