Breast Cancer High Risk Calculator

Over the past few months, you may have been exposed to advertisements concerning Breast Thermography and its role in the detection of breast cancer. Contrary to what you may have heard, Breast Thermography is not an FDA approved method for the primary detection of breast cancer. In fact, the FDA has sent out multiple letters to Thermography Manufacturers as well as Thermography Centers asking them to stop this spread of misinformation.

Breast Thermography was approved in 1983 for the adjunctive screening of breast cancer. What this means is that while Breast Thermography will not harm you, it also may not provide any benefit and is not intended to be a replacement for regular screening mammograms.

Mammography has been proven to decrease breast cancer mortality. Each mammography center in San Luis Obispo County performs quality control procedures daily and undergoes yearly inspections. All physicians who read mammograms must have continuing medical education credits in mammography and meet standards for number of studies read as well as the outcome of those studies. Additionally, San Luis Diagnostic Center has gone above and beyond the basic qualifications and is currently the only Breast Imaging Center of Excellence on the Central Coast.

When making an informed decision about your personal health, choose a proven, approved method for breast cancer detection.
